Full-depth reclamation is when the existing surface and the underlying base of a road are crushed and mixed together to form a new, upgraded, homogenous base. As opposed to rebuilding and repaving a new road, this process makes it much simpler for repairing damaged roads. There are four steps in the overall process you should do:
1. Evaluate
Evaluate the existing roadway and materials used. You need to consider the condition of the road you want to reclaim and the load size the road will be carrying. Will large semi trucks be driving down this road or is this a residential area where the heaviest vehicle is probably going to be a lifted truck? It’s important to consider these things before moving on to the next step.
2. Choose the Correct Agents
Choosing the correct agent is essential for you to pick the right binding agent for the road that you are doing an Indiana Full-Depth Reclamation on. At GL Chloride, we recommend liquid calcium chloride because it stabilizes the road and prolongs the road’s lifespan.
3. Reclamation Process
There are various different ways for you to do this step– depending on the purpose and condition of your road. Please talk to a professional about the specific steps to take for this portion of the process.
4. Save Money
Road rehabilitation can extend the life of your road by reducing the freeze and thaw cycle and the road’s structural integrity ensures that the road will be safe and a smoother ride for many years to come.
Between the repairs and constructing roads, it isn’t surprising that road work is expensive and time-consuming. Every Hoosier knows that once the weather warms up and the sun begins to shine regularly, the orange traffic cones are coming out and your commute time is longer than before. Should roads be repaired using the full-depth reclamation process, all of that could change.

It costs $12 million to build one mile of a one-lane highway in Indiana. This amount excludes maintenance or road work costs.
In 2015, 295 projects were either completed or started to replace or resurface roads. These projects cost time, money and labor and don't hold up as long as any recycling initiative.

For every $1 spent in road recycling efforts, $14 are wasted in the future for repairs without a full-depth reclamation.
